About a quarter of the big Los Cabos resorts have a beach the hotel itself calls swimmable. Of the 40 hotels in our guide, ten have a swimmable beach according to the hotel or a source like Forbes Travel Guide, and most of those are on Médano Beach or a calm corridor cove. Thirteen say outright that the sea in front isn't for swimming, and the rest don't say.
The pattern follows the coast. The bay side of Cabo San Lucas and a few protected coves on the Sea of Cortez are calm. The Pacific side, Diamante and the San José shoreline get strong currents and surf. When your hotel's beach is rough, a boat can take you to calm water a few minutes away.
Which Cabo hotels have a swimmable beach?
These hotels describe the water in front as swimmable, or a source such as Forbes Travel Guide or the hotel group does:
| Hotel | Beach | Source says |
|---|---|---|
| Casa Dorada Los Cabos | Médano | Swimmable, Blue Flag (hotel) |
| Corazón Cabo | Médano | The swimmable stretch of Cabo San Lucas (hotel) |
| ME Cabo | Médano | Swimming and water sports (Los Cabos Magazine) |
| Pueblo Bonito Rosé | Médano | One of the best swimmable beaches (Pueblo Bonito) |
| Breathless Cabo San Lucas | Médano | On the swimmable, Blue Flag beach |
| Grand Fiesta Americana | Cabo del Sol | Swimmable and good for snorkeling (Forbes) |
| Montage Los Cabos | Santa María Bay | Calm, clear, Blue Flag |
| Hilton Los Cabos | El Bledito | Calm and swimmable (Forbes) |
| Paradisus Los Cabos | Cabo Real | Largest swimmable beach in the corridor (Meliá, 2016) |
| One&Only Palmilla | Palmilla | One of the few swimmable beaches (Forbes) |
Forbes Travel Guide points out more than once that a swimmable beach is uncommon in Los Cabos, which is why these hotels mention it. Even on these beaches, look at the flag at the lifeguard post before going in.

Which Cabo hotels say not to swim in the ocean?
These hotels, in their own FAQs or through sources like Forbes Travel Guide and Los Cabos Magazine, tell guests the water in front isn't for swimming:
| Hotel | Side | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Pueblo Bonito Pacifica | Pacific | Swimming not permitted, strong currents |
| Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach | Pacific | Swimming not allowed, strong currents |
| Hard Rock Hotel Los Cabos | Pacific, Diamante | Not safe, strong currents |
| Nobu Hotel Los Cabos | Pacific, Diamante | Strong currents and drop-offs |
| Solmar Resort | Pacific, Land's End | Rogue waves, drop-off, undertow |
| Grand Solmar Land's End | Pacific, Land's End | Surf not safe for swimming |
| Royal Solaris Los Cabos | San José | Not swimmable, strong currents |
| Grand Velas Los Cabos | Corridor | Rocks; swim in the pools |
| Garza Blanca Los Cabos | Corridor | Currents; go to Santa María or Chileno |
| Esperanza | Corridor | Private coves, not swimmable |
| Hacienda Encantada | Corridor | Rocky beach |
Three more are on Médano but at the east end: Riu Santa Fe and Riu Palace Baja California say the designated swimming areas are about 2 km away, toward the marina. RIU's page for the neighboring Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas calls the beach a great place to swim, so the two pages disagree. Check conditions on the day.

Hotels that don't say either way
For the rest of the list, the hotels' own pages don't say whether the sea in front is safe. That includes the San José hotel zone (Hyatt Ziva, Viceroy, GR Solaris Lighthouse, Cabo Azul, The Grand Mayan), several corridor resorts (Las Ventanas al Paraíso, Le Blanc, Marquis, Westin, Krystal Grand) and the Pacific-side resorts near the marina (Sandos Finisterra, Playa Grande, Waldorf Astoria Pedregal).
Two notes help here. In April 2026 Zofemat raised red flags and banned swimming at San José beaches such as Costa Azul and Las Palmas. And the Pacific beaches next to the marina, like Playa Solmar, have rogue waves and undertow according to Los Cabos Magazine. Ask at the beach desk and follow the flags. Our guide to Cabo beaches that are safe to swim covers the public beaches too.
Where guests go when their hotel beach is rough
Several of the hotels above tell guests where to swim instead, and the answers point to the same few beaches:
- Royal Solaris sends guests to Playa Palmilla, Santa María or Médano, about 15 minutes away.
- Hacienda Encantada calls Médano the most popular swimming beach in Cabo and sends guests there.
- Garza Blanca recommends Santa María or Chileno Bay.
- Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach points guests to its sister resorts on calmer beaches. The group's Rosé is on Médano.
Médano is 1.3 km from the marina, and the afternoon charters often come back along it with the town lights coming on behind. If you're staying on the Pacific side or in Diamante, a ride to Médano or a few hours on a boat is the simplest way to get into calm sea water.
Pacific side vs Sea of Cortez: why it matters
Los Cabos sits where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez, at the Arch. Hotels facing the open Pacific, from Land's End up through Pedregal, Quivira and Diamante, get the swell and the currents. The bay of Cabo San Lucas, where Médano is, sits inside Land's End and is calm. Along the corridor, the coves with headlands on both sides, like Santa María, are the calm ones; the open stretches between them can be rough.
That's why "beachfront" doesn't always mean "swimmable" here. Most hotels on the do-not-swim list send guests to their pools instead.
Swimming by yacht: calm water a few minutes out
If your beach is rough, a boat solves it. The crew anchors in sheltered water, and you go in off the swim platform.
| Spot | From the marina | Charter length |
|---|---|---|
| Pelican Rock | 1.3 km, inside the bay | 2 hours |
| Lover's Beach, bay side | 1.7 km | 2 hours |
| Santa María Bay | 11 km up the coast | 4 hours or more |
| Chileno Bay | 13 km up the coast | 5 to 8 hours |
Pelican Rock is the usual first stop: calm, clear water with reef fish near the surface, about 30 to 45 minutes in the water on the 2-hour snorkel option. Lover's Beach is the bay side of Land's End, where people swim; the crew can drop you close. Divorce Beach, on the Pacific side of the same sand, is only for photos from the boat.
Santa María and Chileno are the calm coves on the corridor. Santa María is closed for snorkeling as of October 10, 2026 and is expected to reopen in November; until then, Pelican Rock is the 2-hour alternative. Our Santa María vs Chileno guide compares the two.

Which yacht for a swim day?
All yachts carry snorkel gear and a floating mat. For a swim-focused day:
- Sea Ray 40, up to 12 guests, includes towels: USD 879 (MXN 16,799) for 2 hours, USD 1,499 (MXN 28,499) for 4.
- Pontoon 38, up to 18, with a water slide from the upper deck and a freshwater shower: USD 869 (MXN 16,599) for 2 hours.
- Sea Ray 55, up to 15, with a floating pool, paddle board, lily pad and floating platform: USD 2,709 (MXN 51,499) for 4 hours.
Prices are per boat with 16% IVA tax included; a 15% crew tip is suggested and not included.
Plan your swim
Look up your hotel's beach and distance on the hotels page. If it's on the do-not-swim list, pick a 2-hour morning charter to Pelican Rock and Lover's Beach, or a longer one up the corridor once Santa María reopens. Choose the yacht and date in the planner, and add hotel pickup if you're outside walking distance of the marina.

Questions people ask
Can you swim at the beach at Cabo resorts?
At some. Hotels on Médano Beach, plus a few corridor resorts such as Montage, Hilton, Grand Fiesta Americana, Paradisus and One&Only Palmilla, describe their beaches as swimmable. Pacific-side and Diamante resorts tell guests not to swim in the ocean.
Why can't you swim at many beaches in Cabo?
Much of the coast faces open water with strong currents, undertow and steep drop-offs. Pueblo Bonito, Hard Rock and Nobu all cite strong currents in their own guest information.
Is Médano Beach safe to swim?
Médano is the swimming beach of Cabo San Lucas, on the calm bay side, and hotels there describe it as swimmable and Blue Flag certified. RIU notes that the swimming areas are about 2 km from its hotels at the east end, so check the flags.
Where can I swim if my hotel beach is too rough?
Médano Beach in Cabo San Lucas, the calm coves on the corridor, or by boat at Lover's Beach on the bay side and Pelican Rock, next to the Arch. A 2-hour yacht charter reaches both.
