The hotel
Solmar Resort is a 104-room all-inclusive resort on Playa Solmar, the Pacific beach at Land's End in Cabo San Lucas, close to the Arch. It is about 0.7 km in a straight line from the Cabo San Lucas Marina, around 3 minutes by car without traffic, and longer at rush hour. It opened in 1974 as Hotel Solmar, the first hotel of the Solmar group.
Playa Solmar faces the open Pacific. It is good for walking and for sunsets, but Los Cabos Magazine advises against swimming because of rogue waves, a steep drop-off and undertow. The resort's infinity pools are the place to swim.1
History and curious facts
Luis Bulnes Molleda arrived in Cabo San Lucas in 1954 from Ribadesella, Spain, to manage the town's tuna cannery. Cabo had about 400 residents then, and a trip to La Paz took five or six hours by car. Bulnes later left the cannery to build hotels. With Luis Cóppola Bonillas and Raúl Aréchiga he built Hotel Finisterra, which opened in 1971, and later sold his shares.
Work on his own hotel began in 1972, and Hotel Solmar opened in 1974 with 20 rooms and two suites, even closer to Land's End than the Finisterra. That was also the year Baja California Sur became a state. The hotel was later renamed Solmar Resort and grew to its current 104 rooms. Bulnes died in 2011, and a statue of him stands on the marina boardwalk. In 2024 the group marked 50 years since the Solmar opened, and Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío presented a recognition for the anniversary.

Getting to the marina
Solmar Resort is 0.7 km in a straight line from Marina Cabo San Lucas, and the closest boarding dock is Arte Surf. The trip is about 3 min by car without traffic, according to the route OSRM calculates with OpenStreetMap data. At rush hour the drive takes longer, so give yourself a margin before boarding.

Boarding docks
There is no single dock for every boat. Each yacht boards at its own dock in Marina Cabo San Lucas, and your boarding pass has the exact one with a map link. These are the meeting points and the yachts that use each one:
Your yacht day
Solmar Resort is one of the closest hotels to the boats. The driver picks you up at the resort and you reach the Marina in about 3 minutes without traffic, then walk down to your yacht's dock. From the water you see the side of Land's End the hotel cannot: the Arch, Lover's Beach from the bay and the sea lion rocks. Because the beach in front is not for swimming, a snorkel charter is a good way to get in the sea, and families can stop in a calm cove. Couples tend to book the sunset sail, and from December to April a whale-watching trip goes out past the Arch. The driver takes you back to Solmar afterward.
