The hotel
The Grand Mayan Los Cabos is a Vidanta resort of suites in the hotel zone of San José del Cabo, with tiered pools that run down to the beach and its own nine-hole golf course. It is about 28.7 km from the Cabo San Lucas marina, around 32 minutes without traffic, and longer at rush hour. Guests heading out on a yacht travel west to Cabo San Lucas, where each yacht boards at its own dock.
Vidanta describes the pools as ending at a white-sand beach, where the spa sets up massage tents. The resort does not say whether the sea in front is safe for swimming. San José beaches get red flags when the surf is high, as Zofemat did in April 2026 at Costa Azul and Las Palmas, so check the flag before going in.1
History and curious facts
The Grand Mayan Los Cabos belongs to Grupo Vidanta, the Mexican resort developer founded by Daniel Chávez Morán in 1974, whose brands include Grand Luxxe, The Grand Bliss, The Grand Mayan and Mayan Palace. In a press release dated January 4, 2017, Vidanta announced that it would open the first Herringbone restaurant in Mexico inside The Grand Mayan Los Cabos and that the complex would also host an Omnia dayclub, both as part of a partnership with Hakkasan Group. Today Vidanta lists three restaurants and lounges at the resort made with Hakkasan Group, among them The Reserve, El Mezquite and Samba, along with the Brio Spa and a nine-hole golf course. Vidanta does not publish the year the resort opened.

Your yacht day
The Grand Mayan has suites of one and two bedrooms that suit families and groups of friends, and for them a private yacht is a practical way to spend a day together on the water. Our transfer picks the group up at the resort, drives about half an hour to the Cabo San Lucas marina and brings everyone back after the charter; the driver collects the fare, and the price depends on the hotel's zone. Groups of friends often book a snorkel outing in the morning and leave the afternoon for the pools or the nine-hole course. Couples tend to prefer the sunset outing, and between December and April a whale watching trip is the one most people staying on this side of Los Cabos ask about.
