A yacht photoshoot in Cabo: engagement, couple and family photos with a photographer on board
How photos work on a private yacht in Cabo: adding a photographer for USD 180, the hour and side of Land's End with the best light, where to stand on each yacht, and what the charter costs.

In this guide
For a yacht photoshoot in Cabo, add a professional photographer to your private charter in the planner: USD 180 with all the photos from your charter, paid directly to the photographer. The Arch is 1.2 miles from the dock. The charter starts at USD 519 (MXN 9,799) for two hours on the Chaparral 28, up to 10 guests, or USD 549 (MXN 10,499) on the Bayliner 30, up to 6 guests and with a cabin to change in. Prices are per boat with the 16% tax included, and both yachts board by Captain Tony's in Marina Cabo San Lucas: the Chaparral 28 at Orange Dock 1-B and the Bayliner 30 at Dock 1-A (Zaidas).
Good photos on the water come down to the hour, the side of Land's End, where you stand on the yacht and what you tell the photographer. If the photos are for a proposal, read how to propose on a boat in Cabo as well; the couples experience page has the trips we set up for two.
How the photographer on board works
You add the photographer in the planner when you book. It costs USD 180, paid directly to the photographer, and includes all the photos from your charter. The photographer boards with you at the marina and shoots through the trip. Your own phone or camera is welcome too, and so is a photographer you hire yourself, counted in the yacht's guest limit.
When you book, tell us what the photos are for (engagement, anniversary, family, a birthday) and which moment you care about most. We pass that on to the photographer and the captain, so the boat is still and facing the light at that moment.
The light: which hour and which side
Sunset in Cabo runs from about 5:35 PM in late November and December to about 7:10 PM in early July, and Cabo stays on Mountain Standard Time all year. The trip guide has the time for your date.
| Hour | Light | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 7 to 9 AM | Soft, low from the east, calm water | Bay side, the Arch front-lit from the marina side |
| Midday | Hard, overhead, strongest color in the water | Swim stop at Lover's Beach, aerial-looking shots from the flybridge |
| Last 90 minutes before sunset | Warm, low, the granite turns gold | The Arch, then the Pacific side for the sun on open water |
| After sunset | Blue hour, town lights behind Médano Beach | At anchor in the bay, until 10 PM from the marina |
Most couples book golden hour. Leave about 90 minutes before sunset on a two-hour charter and you reach the Arch as the light turns, with time to round Land's End and watch the sun drop toward the Cabo Falso lighthouse. The bay route is calmer and keeps the Arch behind you. The Pacific route puts the sun over open water, with more motion on deck. Our sunset cruise guide compares the two.

The four backdrops within two miles of the dock
| Spot | From the marina | What it gives you |
|---|---|---|
| The Arch | 1.2 mi / 1.9 km | The Cabo photo; the best angle is from the water |
| Sea lion colony | 1.3 mi / 2 km | Rocks, animals, the captain idles here |
| Lover's Beach | 1 mi / 1.7 km | Calm water, sand, the still-deck shot |
| Divorce Beach | 1 mi / 1.7 km | Pacific surf behind you, photos from the boat only |
All four are on the standard two-hour route out of Marina Cabo San Lucas, and the CONANP conservation fee for the protected area is included in the charter price.
Where to stand on each yacht
On a flybridge yacht (the Sea Ray 40, the Azimut 45, the Sea Ray 55 or the Azimut 70), the photographer shoots down from the upper deck onto the bow. That gives you the clean frame of a couple on the bow with the Arch behind. The flybridge itself works for the group shot, with the horizon at your backs.
On a small boat, the Bayliner 30 or the Chaparral 28, you stand on the bow and the photographer stays in the cockpit. The Bayliner 30's cabin is where you change between the swim and the sunset outfit.
On the McKinna 70, the dinner photo is on the aft deck at anchor, with the crew serving behind you. The luxury yachts page has the largest yachts in the fleet; our best yacht for 2 guide compares the small boats by hour.

What to wear and bring
- Colors that hold up against blue water and grey granite: white, cream, earth tones, or one strong color. Busy prints compete with the background.
- Flat shoes or bare feet on deck. Heels slip, and the deck photo looks better without them.
- A second outfit if you're swimming first; the small boats with a cabin (Bayliner 30, Bayliner 33) and the bigger yachts have a place to change.
- A light layer for after sunset.
- Towels: included only on the Sea Ray 36, Sea Ray 40 and Azimut 45.

Engagement, family or anniversary: what changes
For an engagement, book two hours at golden hour, tell the photographer when you plan to ask, and read how to propose on a boat in Cabo for the ring and the signal to the captain. Our Cabo proposal ideas list has the spots.
For a family photoshoot, go in the morning when the water is calmest and the kids are fresh. Get the group shot at the Arch on the way out while everyone is still dry, and save the candid photos for the swim stop. Tell us the kids' ages so the crew has the right life jackets.
For an anniversary, plan around the blue-hour shot at anchor off Médano Beach with the town lights behind you; yachts from the marina may stay anchored in the bay until 10 PM. Our anniversary dinner guide covers the evening.
Decorations are cardstock and a sign only (the Port Captain no longer allows balloons on board); flowers and a cake are extras quoted separately.
