The hotel
The Cape, a Thompson Hotel is a design-led beachfront resort on Monuments Beach, on the tourist corridor just east of downtown Cabo San Lucas, with views of the Arch across the bay. It is about 4.4 km in a straight line from the Cabo San Lucas Marina, around 16 minutes by car without traffic, and more at rush hour. It opened in June 2015 as the first Thompson hotel in Mexico.
The Cape sits on Monuments Beach, a secluded surf break for experienced surfers, with private stairs down to the sand. For swimming, the hotel has a freshwater infinity pool and a saltwater pool built into a natural rock formation.1
History and curious facts
Thompson Hotels announced The Cape in March 2015 and opened it on June 29, 2015, as the brand's first property in Mexico. It was owned by Vertex Real Estate Investors and Pentz & Partners in partnership with Commune Hotels & Resorts, which managed it, and it opened with 161 rooms.
Mexican architect Javier Sánchez of JSa Arquitectura designed the building, and Marisabel Gómez Vázquez's firm, Arquitectura de Interiores, did the interiors, mixing mid-century modern lines with a 1960s Mexico-meets-Southern California feel. Ceramicist José Noé Suro made the hand-painted tiles on the floors, and much of the furniture was handmade in Mexico. The lobby has black concrete ceilings above a life-size whale made from salvaged driftwood. Chef Enrique Olvera oversees Manta, the 114-seat signature restaurant. The Michelin Guide now gives the hotel One MICHELIN Key.

Getting to the marina
The Cape, a Thompson Hotel is 4.4 km in a straight line from Marina Cabo San Lucas, and the closest boarding dock is Fisherman's Landing. The trip is about 16 min by car without traffic, according to the route OSRM calculates with OpenStreetMap data. At rush hour the drive takes longer, so give yourself a margin before boarding.

Boarding docks
There is no single dock for every boat. Each yacht boards at its own dock in Marina Cabo San Lucas, and your boarding pass has the exact one with a map link. These are the meeting points and the yachts that use each one:
Your yacht day
From The Cape you look at the Arch all day, and a yacht takes you right up to it. Our driver picks you up at the hotel and drives west to the Marina in about 16 minutes without traffic, a bit more at rush hour, then drops you near your yacht's dock. The Cape draws couples and small groups, so the sunset sail is a natural fit: you leave the marina in the late afternoon, round Land's End and watch the sun drop into the Pacific. Since Monuments is a surf beach, a snorkel charter is the easy way to swim in calm water. Groups can book a birthday or bachelorette charter, and from December to April whale watching is on offer. On the way back the boat passes in front of the hotel's own stretch of coast.
