Your plan on the day
Fridays: the ship arrives at 6:30 AM. With the 10 to 15 minute tender and the line, count on being at the dock by 7:00 AM. It sails at 2:30 PM, so plan to be back at the dock by 1:30 PM: that leaves 6 h 30 min on the water.
Leave at 7:00 AM and you are back by 9:00 AM: a short snorkel at Pelican Rock, the sea lions, the Arch, Lover's Beach and back along Médano Beach, 4.7 miles in all. That leaves 4 h 30 min for lunch in town before the tender.
With 6 h 30 min available, the 4 hour trip fits: leave at 7:00 AM, pass the Arch and run up the coast to snorkel Santa María Bay, with a swim stop on the way back, and you are at the dock by 11:00 AM, 2 h 30 min before your time to be back. Note: Santa María Bay is closed for snorkeling for now and we expect it to reopen in November (updated October 10, 2026); on calls before November the snorkel stop is Pelican Rock instead. Ask us.
With the tender and the line, you are ashore around 10:30 AM. The ship stays the night, so there is no all-aboard that afternoon. Leave the dock between 3:30 PM and 4:30 PM, depending on the month, to watch the sun set behind the Arch (from November to April it sets between about 5:35 and 6:40 PM). Yachts sail until 8 PM, and those from the marina can stay anchored in the bay until 10:00 PM, so there is time for dinner on board facing the town lights.
The ship sails at 4:00 PM. A 2 hour Arch and Pelican Rock run leaving at 7:00 AM has you back at the dock by 9:00 AM, 6 hours before the time you want to be back (3:00 PM).
