Lover's Beach in Cabo: how to get there, where to swim and what to bring
How to reach Lover's Beach by boat, which side you can swim, why there is no easy walk in, and what to pack.

In this guide
Lover's Beach (Playa del Amor) is a strip of sand on the bay side of Land's End, about 1 mile (1.7 km) from Marina Cabo San Lucas, and you get there by boat. You can swim on the bay side when the water is calm. The other side of the same sand, Divorce Beach, faces the open Pacific and is not a swimming beach.
There are no lifeguards, restrooms or shade on the sand, so bring what you need or arrive on a boat that has it.
Where is Lover's Beach in Cabo?
Lover's Beach sits at the foot of Land's End, the granite point at the very tip of the Baja peninsula. The sand crosses a narrow neck of the point, so one end faces the calm bay and the other end faces the Pacific. The bay end is Lover's Beach. The Pacific end is Divorce Beach.
It is a short hop from town. From the marina you pass Pelican Rock at 0.8 miles, then reach Lover's Beach at about 1 mile, with the Arch just beyond it at 1.2 miles. That is why most of our routes pass it.
The whole area around Land's End has been a federal flora and fauna protection area since 1973. Captains slow down around the rocks and idle near the sea lions so they don't disturb them.

How do you get to Lover's Beach?
You have three realistic options. Two are by boat.
The first is a water taxi. Small open boats called pangas leave from the marina, drop you on the sand and come back at a time you agree on. It is the quickest way to spend an hour or two on the beach. You then have no shade, bathroom or cooler for as long as you stay.
The second is a private charter. The yacht runs the Land's End route and your crew can drop you close to the bay side so you can swim in or step ashore. You keep the boat as your base: shade, drinks in the cooler, a place to sit when the sun gets strong.
The third is on foot, and it is a scramble more than a walk. More on that below.
| Way in | What it's like | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Water taxi (panga) | Quick drop-off and pickup, no facilities on the beach | A short beach stop on a budget |
| Private charter | Your own boat anchored nearby, crew drops you close | Groups, families, a full Land's End route |
| Rock scramble from Playa Solmar | Climbing loose granite at low tide, crossing Divorce Beach | Experienced hikers only |
Can you walk to Lover's Beach in Cabo?
There is no path or road. People do reach it from Playa Solmar, the Pacific beach on the far side of the hill from downtown, by climbing over two sections of rock at low tide. That route drops you onto Divorce Beach first. From there you walk across the sand to the bay side.
We don't send guests that way. The rocks are loose, the tide changes the route, and you are walking right next to the Pacific surf, where people have been caught by waves. If you do try it, go at low tide, wear real shoes and stay well back from the water on the Pacific side.
Can you swim at Lover's Beach?
Yes, on the bay side. That side faces the Sea of Cortez, sheltered by the rocks of Land's End, and the water is usually calm and clear.
Do not swim at the Pacific end. Divorce Beach has big surf and a strong undertow, and the drop-off is steep. Several people have drowned there over the years, and in July 2026 authorities flew a black flag at Divorce Beach, which means the water is closed. You can stand on the dry sand and look.
Some safety points for the bay side:
- No lifeguards work either side of the beach.
- Conditions change by day. If the water looks rough at the shoreline, stay out.
- Boats pass close to the beach. Swim near the sand, not out in the channel.
- Kids should wear a life jacket in the water. On a charter, tell us their ages when you book so the right sizes are on board.

Lover's Beach vs Divorce Beach
| Lover's Beach | Divorce Beach | |
|---|---|---|
| Faces | Sea of Cortez (the bay) | Open Pacific |
| Water | Usually calm | Big surf, strong undertow |
| Swimming | Yes, with care | No |
| Best way to see it | Swim in from a boat | From the boat or the sand |
Is there snorkeling at Lover's Beach?
On calm days you can snorkel along the rocks at the bay end. The better spot is Pelican Rock, a rocky point inside the same bay, 0.8 miles from the marina. The water there is calm and clear, and reef fish swim close to the surface. It is the first snorkel stop on most charters.
If snorkeling is the main reason for your trip, look at Santa María Bay. It is a sheltered horseshoe cove up the coast with reef along both points, and it is worth the ride on charters of four hours or more. Our snorkel trip page has the route, and our guide to the best snorkeling in Cabo compares the spots.
Snorkel gear is included on every one of our yachts, including the Chaparral 28, Bayliner 33, Sea Ray 36 and Sea Ray 40.

What to bring to Lover's Beach
Nothing is for sale on the sand, so pack as if for a day with no services:
On a yacht most of this is handled. The boat has shade and a cooler, and some yachts, like the Pontoon 38, have an enclosed head. Some yachts include towels. You can bring your own drinks (18+), and food can be ordered from our menu in the planner.
Seeing Lover's Beach on a private charter
The standard 2-hour Arch & Land's End route covers Lover's Beach and everything around it: Pelican Rock, the sea lions, the Arch, Lover's and Divorce Beach, then back along Médano Beach. It is 4.7 miles round trip. If you want a swim and a snorkel stop without rushing, book 3 hours.
Prices are per boat, not per person, with 16% IVA tax included. The customary 15% crew tip is not included.
| Yacht | Guests | 2 hours | 3 hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chaparral 28 | up to 10 | USD 519 / MXN 9,799 | USD 709 / MXN 13,599 |
| Bayliner 33 | up to 8 | USD 599 / MXN 11,399 | USD 869 / MXN 16,599 |
| Sea Ray 36 | up to 12 | USD 659 / MXN 12,599 | USD 929 / MXN 17,799 |
| Pontoon 38 | up to 18 | USD 869 / MXN 16,599 | USD 1,269 / MXN 23,999 |
| Sea Ray 40 | up to 12 | USD 879 / MXN 16,799 | USD 1,199 / MXN 22,799 |
Every one of these boards at Marina Cabo San Lucas, downtown. Departures run from 7 AM to 7 PM. If photos matter most, book the late afternoon for golden hour at the Arch.
Planning your Lover's Beach day
Pick your group size first, then the hours. A couple or a small family fits on the Chaparral 28 or Bayliner 33. Groups up to 12 fit on the Sea Ray 36 or Sea Ray 40, and up to 18 people fit on the Pontoon 38, which has a water slide off the upper deck.

Questions people ask
How do you get to Lover's Beach in Cabo?
By boat. Lover's Beach is about 1 mile (1.7 km) from Marina Cabo San Lucas, and water taxis and private charters run there from the marina. The only land route is a rock scramble over the Pacific side, which we don't recommend.
Can you swim at Lover's Beach in Cabo?
Yes, on the bay side, which faces the Sea of Cortez and is usually calm. Do not swim on the Pacific side, called Divorce Beach, where big surf and a strong undertow make the water dangerous. There are no lifeguards on either side.
Can you walk to Lover's Beach from downtown Cabo?
Not on a path. People do climb over the rocks from Playa Solmar at low tide, but it means crossing Divorce Beach and scrambling on loose granite with Pacific waves nearby. A boat from the marina is the safer way in.
Is there snorkeling at Lover's Beach?
You can snorkel along the rocks on calm days, but most charters stop at Pelican Rock, a few minutes away inside the same bay, where the water is calm and reef fish swim close to the surface.
Are there bathrooms or food at Lover's Beach?
No. There are no restrooms, vendors, shade structures or lifeguards. Bring water, sun protection and anything you need, or visit from a yacht where you have a head, shade and a cooler.
