A yacht day in Cabo for seniors and grandparents: comfort, shade, a bathroom and the calm side of the bay
How a private yacht day works for older guests in Cabo: the two-hour morning on the calm bay side, yachts with a cabin, a bathroom or A/C, what to ask about boarding, and the price.

In this guide
For seniors in Cabo San Lucas who want time on the water without a long day, a good fit is a private two-hour yacht trip in the morning on the calm bay side: the Arch, the sea lion colony and Lover's Beach are all within 1.3 miles of the dock, with a captain, shade and a bathroom on board. The Bayliner 30, a cabin cruiser for up to 6, is USD 549 (MXN 10,499) for two hours, boarding at Dock 1-A (Zaidas), by Captain Tony's, in Marina Cabo San Lucas. For a bigger group that wants air conditioning, the Sea Ray 55 takes 15 for USD 2,129 (MXN 40,399) for three hours, from the IGY Marina Fuel Dock in Marina Cabo San Lucas. Prices are per boat with the 16% tax included; the customary 15% crew tip is not included.
For the whole family on board, our family reunion on a yacht guide covers three generations, and the yacht by group size page sorts the whole fleet by headcount.
Why a private yacht, not a shared tour, for older guests
On a private charter the boat leaves when you choose, goes where you choose and stops when you ask. If someone wants to sit in the shade for twenty minutes, the captain anchors. If the motion is too much, you head back. A shared tour keeps its own schedule with a full deck. Older guests get the most out of being able to set the pace, and because prices are per boat, a couple pays the same as a full boat. Our private yacht vs shared tour comparison has the rest.
The calm two-hour morning
Departures start at 7 AM, and the bay is usually at its flattest before midday. The route stays inside Land's End, 4.7 miles round trip, and the captain slows at every stop:
- Board at your yacht's dock in Marina Cabo San Lucas (it's on your boarding pass) between 8 and 10 AM. The marina is downtown, a walk from the Médano Beach hotels and a taxi from the corridor resorts.
- Pelican Rock, the calm snorkel spot at the foot of Land's End, seen from the deck.
- The captain idles at the sea lion colony so you can watch them without a telephoto lens.
- The Arch, with the boat held still for photos. A professional photographer can join for USD 180, with all the photos from your charter, paid directly to the photographer. Add it in the planner.
- A look at Divorce Beach on the Pacific side from the boat, then anchor off Lover's Beach on the calm side for a rest.
- Back along Médano Beach. Two hours covers it without hurry.
Skip the Pacific sunset route, which rounds Land's End into open ocean toward the Cabo Falso lighthouse with more motion, and skip the four-hour run up the coast. Our seasickness guide covers where to sit and why mornings are easier.
Which yacht for comfort
The questions older guests ask are shade, a bathroom, somewhere to sit out of the sun and how much the boat moves. From the yacht listings:
| Yacht | Guests | Cabin or salon | Bathroom | A/C | 2 hours |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bayliner 30 | 6 | Cabin | Head | No | USD 549 / MXN 10,499 |
| Bayliner 33 | 8 | Cabin | Head | No | USD 599 / MXN 11,399 |
| Maxum 45 | 12 | A/C cabin | Not listed | Yes | USD 999 / MXN 18,999 |
| Azimut 45 Flybridge | 12 | Two cabins, A/C salon | Two heads | Yes | USD 1,249 / MXN 23,799 |
| Sea Ray 55 | 15 | Cabins, A/C | Heads | Yes | USD 2,129 / MXN 40,399 (3 h) |
| Azimut 70 | 12 | Two cabins, A/C salon | Not listed | Yes | 3 h: USD 4,199 / MXN 79,799 |
For a couple or a small family, the Bayliner 30 is the one we'd point to: a professional captain, a cooler with ice, bottled water and sodas, a cabin to sit in and a head. For a group with A/C, the Sea Ray 55 is a 55-foot flybridge motor yacht that moves less than a 30-footer, with cabins and heads and bottled water, sodas and ice included (towels are not; bring them). The Chaparral 28 is cheaper, but it's an open sport boat with no cabin or head, so we'd skip it for this trip.
For a hosted day, the Azimut 70 includes a menu on board and complimentary drinks served by its crew of three, with two cabins and an A/C salon; the luxury yachts page has the largest yachts in the fleet.

Boarding: what to ask and what we can confirm
Each yacht boards at its own dock in Marina Cabo San Lucas (the Azimut 70 and the McKinna 70 at the IGY Marina Fuel Dock), and your exact dock and a map link come on your boarding pass. The Sea Ray 65 meets you at Fisherman's Landing restaurant, by the Cabo Escape terminal.
We don't publish step counts, ramp details or handrails for each yacht. Instead, tell us when you book if anyone uses a cane, a walker or a wheelchair, or has trouble with steps, and we confirm with the operator what boarding on that yacht involves before you pay anything. Each charter is run by an independent licensed operator with a captain and, on most yachts, a deckhand who helps at the dock.
Keeping the day short and easy
- Two hours, morning, bay side. Three if the group wants a longer rest at anchor.
- Breakfast on board: order in the planner and it's there when you arrive. Chilaquiles and beans, huevos rancheros, French toast, banana pancakes or yogurt and granola at MXN 325 each, cash prices (card adds 16%).
- A hat, sunscreen and a light layer; the breeze on the water is cooler than the air on land.
- Water. The Bayliner 30, the Bayliner 33 and the Sea Ray 55 include bottled water; extra bottles are MXN 17 each in the planner.
- Whales. November to April is whale season in Cabo, so keep an eye on the water on the way out.
Guests 18 and over may bring their own drinks; the yachts don't sell or serve alcohol. No fishing, except on the McKinna 70's sport-fishing charter.
Weather and the refund rule
The Port Captain closes the harbor only under a hurricane or storm threat or another extraordinary situation, mostly between September and mid-October. If it closes on your date, you get a new date or a full refund. Cabo stays on Mountain Standard Time all year, so a 9 AM departure is 9 AM in the same time zone as Denver in winter.
Booking a senior-friendly charter
Open the planner, pick the Bayliner 30 for two hours or the Sea Ray 55 for three, a morning departure, and write any mobility notes and ages in the request. We reply in writing within two hours, 8 AM to 8 PM Cabo time, or on WhatsApp at +52 624 300 8029, confirm the boarding details with the operator, and send a secure Stripe link once the date is confirmed in writing. Questions people ask
What is a good thing to do in Cabo San Lucas for seniors?
A private two-hour yacht trip in the morning on the calm bay side: the Arch, the sea lion colony and Lover's Beach are all within 1.3 miles of the dock, with a captain, shade and a bathroom on board. The Bayliner 30 with a cabin is USD 549 (MXN 10,499) for two hours.
Which Cabo yacht is most comfortable for older guests?
The Sea Ray 55: air conditioning, cabins and heads, a 55-foot motor yacht that moves less than a small boat, for up to 15, USD 2,129 (MXN 40,399) for three hours. For smaller groups, the Bayliner 30 (up to 6, USD 549 / MXN 10,499) and the Bayliner 33 (up to 8, USD 599 / MXN 11,399) both have a cabin and a head.
Is boarding a yacht in Cabo hard for someone with limited mobility?
It depends on the yacht and the dock. Each yacht boards at its own dock in Marina Cabo San Lucas; your exact dock and a map link come on your boarding pass. Tell us about mobility when you book and we confirm with the operator what boarding on that yacht involves before you pay; we don't publish step or ramp details for each yacht, so we ask the operator for you.
Is a boat trip in Cabo rough?
Inside the bay in the morning, usually not: the water is calmest before midday and the Arch route stays inside Land's End. The Pacific side has more motion, so a charter planned for older guests skips it. If the Port Captain closes the harbor for weather, you get a new date or a full refund.
