The best yacht in Cabo for 6 people, when some of the six are kids, is the Bayliner 33. It takes up to 8, so a family of six has two spare seats, and it costs USD 599 (MXN 11,399) for two hours, about USD 100 each, boarding at O Dock 2, by Arte Surf, in Marina Cabo San Lucas. The Bayliner 30 is a cabin cruiser that takes exactly 6 and includes bottled water and sodas for USD 549 (MXN 10,499). For six adults who want a deckhand and towels, the Sea Ray 36 is USD 659 (MXN 12,599). Prices are per boat with the 16% tax included; the 15% crew tip is extra.

With six people the small boats start to fill up: the Bayliner 30 is full, and the Bayliner 33 has two seats left. The whole fleet by headcount is on the yacht by group size page.

A family of 6 with kids: Bayliner 33

With kids you need room for a bag of towels and snacks, and the Bayliner 33's two spare seats mean nobody is squeezed. It includes ice, bottled water, a floating mat and snorkel gear. If a cabin for naps matters more than the spare seats, the Bayliner 30 is the cabin cruiser, and it costs USD 50 less. We'd keep the first trip to two hours in the morning. The Arch route (Pelican Rock, the sea lion colony, the Arch, Lover's Beach, back along Médano Beach) is 4.7 miles round trip with plenty for kids to look at.

Tell us the children's ages when you book. Our Cabo with kids guide covers what to pack and what kids eat on board, and the family day page shows the routine.

Six adults, no kids: Bayliner 30 or Sea Ray 36

Six adults fill the Bayliner 30 exactly. It's a cabin cruiser with a professional captain, a cooler with ice, bottled water and sodas, snorkel gear and a floating mat. The cabin is a changing room and a shade spot, and six people on a 30-footer is comfortable for two or three hours.

The Sea Ray 36 is the step up for six who want to spread out: it takes 12, so six have the run of a 36-foot express cruiser with a captain and deckhand, bottled water and ice, a cooler, towels and snorkel gear. It's one of only three yachts in the fleet that include towels. For a sunset for three couples, our sunset cruise guide has the departure time by month.

Six who want air conditioning: Sea Ray 55

If a grandparent is coming, or it's July, the Sea Ray 55 is the boat with air conditioning, cabins and heads. It takes 15, so six people have a 55-foot flybridge motor yacht to themselves, with a floating pool, a paddle board, a lily pad and a floating platform at the swim stop. Three hours is USD 2,129 (MXN 40,399), about USD 355 each; it's the family-reunion boat more than the family-of-six boat, and our family reunion guide covers that day. The top of the fleet is on the luxury yachts page.

Morning or afternoon with six on board?

With kids, we'd go in the morning. Departures start at 7 AM, so a family is back at the hotel pool by lunch. Order breakfast in the planner and it's on board when you arrive: chilaquiles and beans, huevos rancheros, French toast or banana pancakes at MXN 325 each, cash prices (card adds 16%). Six breakfasts is MXN 1,950.

If the six are adults and the plan is the sunset, leave about 90 minutes before the sun goes down; the trip guide has the time for your date. Yachts from the marina may stay anchored in the bay until 10 PM.

Where a boat for 6 goes

Two hours covers the Arch route. Three hours adds a long swim stop on the calm bay side near Lover's Beach, with the floating mat in the water. Four hours is the minimum for the ride up the coast to Santa María Bay, which is closed for snorkeling for now and expected to reopen in November. Until then the snorkel stop is Pelican Rock, inside the bay next to the Arch, where reef fish swim close to the surface. Our yacht day itinerary guide lays out each length.

Divorce Beach, on the Pacific side, has big surf and a strong undertow, so you see it from the boat and don't swim there.

What every boat for 6 includes

  • A captain, and a deckhand on the Sea Ray 36 and up.
  • The CONANP conservation fee for the protected area around the Arch.
  • Departures from 7 AM to 7 PM, sailing until 8 PM, anchored in the bay until 10 PM from the marina.
  • A new date or a full refund if the Port Captain closes the harbor, which happens mostly between September and mid-October.

Towels are not included on the three small boats (only the Sea Ray 36, Sea Ray 40 and Azimut 45 include them), so bring six. Guests 18 and over may bring their own drinks; the yachts don't sell or serve alcohol. None of the boats allow fishing.

A different group size?
